About the method
Viktor Frankl developed logotherapy, an approach within existential psychotherapy centred on the human search for meaning and its fulfilment. Frankl considered the will to meaning a fundamental force: what we need is not a life without tension, but purposeful movement towards something that truly matters to us.
When the search for meaning finds no outlet, what Frankl called an existential vacuum can arise: apathy, boredom and inner emptiness. He identified three paths to meaning: creating something; new experiences and encounters with others; and, when those paths are unavailable, finding meaning even in suffering. He discovered the last path in a concentration camp, and it helped him endure his suffering.
What it can help with
- feelings of emptiness and loss of meaning;
- apathy, low mood and wondering what it is all for;
- coping with loss and difficult periods of life;
- exploring values and support for important decisions.
How it works
Together, we explore what gives your life meaning in your specific circumstances. I help you draw on your values, especially when it feels as though you have nothing to lean on.
